Frösön

Frösön is the largest island in the lake Storsjön, located west of the city Östersund in Jämtland. During most of recorded history the island was the regional centre of Jämtland. Frösön is the location of "Frösöstenen", the northernmost raised runestone in the world, dating from 1030-1050 AD. Frösön was a separate köping until 1974 but was merged with Östersund at that time. The island is named after Freyr, the Norse God of fecundity and love.

Jamtli

Jamtli is the name of the regional museum of Jämtland and Härjedalen in Östersund, Sweden. It consists of an open air museum with historical buildings, and an indoor museum with both permanent and temporary exhibitions. “Jamtli” literally means “hillside of Jämtland” in the local dialect. Since the 1980s, the museum has been working with living history in a project entitled Jamtli Historyland.

Frösö Runestone

Frösöstenen is the northern-most raised runestone in the World and Jämtland's only runestone. It originally stood at the tip of ferry terminal on the sound between the island of Frösön and Östersund. On it is inscribed: Austmaðr, Guðfastr's son, had this stone raised and this bridge built and Christianized Jämtland. Ásbjörn built the bridge. Trjónn and Steinn carved these runes.
