Kil Municipality (Kils kommun) is a municipality in Värmland County in west central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Kil. The local government reform of 1971 amalgamated Stora Kil, Järnskog and a part of Brunskog, thus forming Kil Municipality. Kil means wedge, crack or similar in Swedish, in this case referring to a bay (old Swedish). The name is at least from the fifteenth century, referring to a bay by the small lake Hyn, where the church was constructed.

The first municipality named Forshaga was a market town which was detached from Grava in 1944. Värmlands regemente (Värmland Regiment), designations I 22, I 2 and I 2/Fo 52, was a Swedish Army infantry regiment that traced its origins back to the 16th century. It was disbanded in 2000. The regiment's soldiers were originally recruited from the province of Värmland, and it was later garrisoned in there.
