Hofenmühle

The Hofenmühle is an 18th-century water mill in the municipality of Wohlen near Bern, Switzerland. The existence of the mill, which is private property, is attested since 1719. After the 1920 damming of the River Aar that created the Wohlensee reservoir, the water wheel was replaced with a Brown, Boveri & Cie turbine. The mill ceased to operate in 1994 following the retirement of the miller; since then, local craftsmen and artists have settled in the buildings.

Sense (river)

The river Sense is a right tributary of the river Saane in Switzerland. It is a border river between the Cantons of Fribourg and Bern. Its source rivers, the Kalte Sense, coming from Mount Gantrisch, and Warme Sense, flowing out of lake Schwarzsee, join at Zollhaus and thus form the origin of the Sense. The Sense flows through a gorge of 15 km length, which is popular for whitewater sports, but also for swimming and bathing – especially among nudists.

Saane/Sarine

Saane or Sarine is one of the largest rivers in Switzerland. It is 128 km long and has a drainage area of 1,892 km². It is a tributary of the river Aar. The source is at the foot of the Sanetschhorn, in the western part of the Bernese Oberland.
