Dadan Island

Dadan Island is a small island in Taiwan Strait, along the coast of Mainland China. It is located approximately 12,000 m to the Southwest of Lesser Kinmen and approximately 4,400 m from Xiamen. The Republic of China controls the island, which is administered by Kinmen County under Fukien Province. Since 1949, Dadan Island has several times become the battlefront of conflicts between the People's Liberation Army and the Republic of China Armed Forces.

Fujian Province, Republic of China

Fujian Province or Fukien Province, is a province of the Republic of China. It includes the small archipelagos of Kinmen (Quemoy) and Matsu Islands off the southeast coast of Fujian Province, People's Republic of China (PRC). The seat of the provincial government is Jincheng Township of Kinmen County. Fujian Province, was once part of a traditional Fujian Province of China. After the Chinese Civil War of 1949, the province split into two parts governed by the ROC and the PRC respectively.

Battle of Guningtou

The Battle of Guningtou, also known as the Battle of Kinmen, was a battle fought over Kinmen (Quemoy) in the Taiwan Strait during the Chinese Civil War in 1949. The failure of the Communists to take the island left it in the hands of the Kuomintang (Nationalists) and crushed their chances of taking Taiwan to destroy the Nationalists completely in the war.

Battle of Liaoluo Bay

The Battle of Liaoluo Bay (料羅灣海戰) took place in 1633 off the coasts of Fujian and Kinmen. It involved the Dutch East India Company and the Chinese Ming dynasty's navies. The battle was fought at the north coast of the island of Kinmen, in the Taiwan strait. A Dutch fleet under Admiral Hans Putmans was attempting to control shipping in the Taiwan strait, while the southern Fujian sea traffic and trade was protected by a fleet under Brigadier General Zheng Zhilong.
