Butiama

Butiama is a town in northern Tanzania and the birthplace of Julius Nyerere, the first president of Tanzania. It is one of the wards of the Musoma Rural District within the Mara Region; it is also the local residential area of the Wazanaki tribe which is believed to be the smallest tribe in the region. The Mwalimu Nyerere Museum Centre is located in the town.

Mara Region

Mara is one of the thirty regions of Tanzania. The region is named after the Mara River. Musoma serves as the Region's capital. The neighboring regions are Mwanza Region and Simiyu Region (to the south), Arusha Region (to the south east) and Kagera. To the north east, Mara Region borders Narok County and Migori County in Republic of Kenya.
