Isle of Wight (UK Parliament constituency)

Isle of Wight /ˈaɪəl ɵv waɪt/ is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2001 by Andrew Turner of the Conservative Party. Created by the Great Reform Act for the 1832 general election it covers the whole of the Isle of Wight and had the largest electorate in elections from 1983 to 2010, however will form two constituencies with among the smallest electorates from 2015.

Rowridge transmitting station

The Rowridge transmitting station is a facility for FM radio and television transmission at Rowridge on the Isle of Wight in southern England. It currently has a 149.6 metres tall guyed mast, owned and operated by Arqiva (previously National Grid Wireless), though during the summer of 2010 construction started on a 172 metres replacement mast. There is a smaller tower on the site belonging to British Telecom.

Carisbrooke railway station

Carisbrooke Station was an intermediate station on the Freshwater, Yarmouth and Newport Railway, situated near the village of Carisbrooke just outside Newport. It was a busy station for the nearby castle until the advent of the bus routes, but little used thereafter. Closed in 1953 its goods yard was by then derelict and overgrown (its only recent use having been by prisoners during World War II).

Watchingwell Halt (Isle of Wight) railway station

Watchingwell Halt, was an intermediate station on the Freshwater, Yarmouth and Newport Railway, situated near the hamlet of Upper Watchingwell, that started life as a private halt. It was built at the bequest of Sir John Barrington Simeon, M. P for Southampton, in 1897, not included in timetables available to the general public until the creation of the Southern in 1923, and closed in 1953. It was, by its very nature, a sparsely used station.

Isle of Wight Rural District

The Isle of Wight Rural District was a rural district on the Isle of Wight from 1894 to 1974 covering most the island, part from urban areas. In 1933, the district was reduced by the creation of the Sandown-Shanklin and Ventnor urban districts. In 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, it was merged with these two urban districts to form the new non-metropolitan South Wight district.
