Pate Hole

Pate Hole is a large cave, located near the small village of Great Asby in the Asby area of Cumbria. The main Pate Hole cave was surveyed in 1960 by Phil Davies and Jack Whaddon. Later explorations have shown that the cave runs approximately 30m below the surface, for approximately 1000m. The cave extends 400m before reaching a chamber with a pool of around 20m in length. The direction of the cave then changes and continues for 200m more.

Appleby Castle

Appleby Castle is in the town of Appleby, Cumbria overlooking the River Eden. It consists of a 12th-century castle keep which is known as Caesar's Tower, and a mansion house. These, together with their associated buildings, are set in a courtyard surrounded by curtain walls. Caesar's Tower and the mansion house are each designated by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building. The uninhabited parts of the castle are a scheduled ancient monument.

Barony of Westmorland

The Barony of Westmorland, originally often written as Westmarieland or Westmaringaland, was one of two baronies making up the English county of Westmorland, the other being the Barony of Kendal. Geographically, the barony covered the northern part of the county of the same name, and was divided into two wards — East ward and West ward.
