Shipton-on-Cherwell train crash

The Shipton-on-Cherwell train crash was a major disaster which occurred on the Great Western Railway. It involved the derailment of a long passenger train at Shipton-on-Cherwell near Kidlington, Oxfordshire, England, on Christmas Eve, 24 December 1874, and was one of the worst ever disasters on the Great Western Railway. Colonel William Yolland of the Railway Inspectorate led the investigation and chaired the subsequent Court of Enquiry of the Board of Trade.

The Manor Studio

The Manor Studio (aka The Manor) was a recording studio in the manor house at the village of Shipton-on-Cherwell in Oxfordshire, England, north of the city of Oxford. It was the first residential recording studio in the UK. The concept was pioneered in 1969 by French musician Michel Magne in the Château d'Hérouville. The manor house was owned by Richard Branson and used as a recording studio for Virgin Records, although artists signed to other labels also used the studios.

Ploughley Rural District

Ploughley was a rural district in Oxfordshire, England, from 1932 to 1974. It entirely surrounded Bicester but did not include it. It was created in 1932 from parts of the abolished Bicester Rural District, Headington Rural District and Woodstock Rural District, along with a couple of non-urban parishes from Bicester urban district. In 1974 it was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972 and now forms part of the Cherwell district.

Weston Otmoor

Weston Otmoor is a proposed new eco-town in the north of Oxfordshire in countryside to the east of the village of Weston-on-the-Green. It would be next to Junction 9 of the M40 motorway and 7 miles north of Oxford and is one of 15 bids shortlisted by the Department of Communities and Local Government on 3 April 2008. Eco-towns are subject to a consultation by the Department of Communities and Local Government ending 30 June 2008.

Rousham House

Rousham House (also known as Rousham Park) is a country house at Rousham in Oxfordshire, England. The house, which has been continuously in the ownership of one family, was built circa 1635 and remodeled by William Kent in the 18th century in a free Gothic style. Further alterations were carried out in the 19th century.
