Pontrilas

Pontrilas is a village in south Herefordshire, England, half a mile from the border with Wales. It is in the parish of Kentchurch and lies midway between Hereford and Abergavenny. The village name means 'bridge over three rivers', as the River Dore, Dulas brook and another smaller stream meet there. The main A465 road skirts the west of the village. The neighbouring villages include; Ewyas Harold, Llangua, Dulas, Wormbridge, Kilpeck, Bagwyllydiart, Abbey Dore and Howton.

Pontrilas railway station

Pontrilas railway station served the village of Pontrilas, Herefordshire, UK, and was on the Welsh Marches Line between Hereford and Abergavenny. The Golden Valley Railway ran from here through to the Midland Railway line at Hay on Wye. The station is now a private house offering B&B and a self-catering cottage. The station closed in 1958. The remaining Railway infrastructure includes the operating Signal box.

Ewyas Harold

Ewyas Harold is a village and civil parish in the Golden Valley in Herefordshire, England, near to the Welsh border with present day Monmouthshire and about half way between the towns of Abergavenny and Hereford. It lies on the Dulas brook, and is contiguous with the neighbouring village of Pontrilas. The village is named after Harold, son of Ralph the Timid earl of Hereford, and great-grandson of King Æthelred the Unready.

Ewyas Harold Castle

Ewyas Harold Castle was a castle in the village of Ewyas Harold in Herefordshire, England. The first castle on the site is believed to be one of the very few which were built before the Norman conquest under the Saxons, probably in 1048, on the site of an earlier fortification, possibly by Osbern Pentecost. It was a motte and bailey castle overlooking the Dulas Brook. In 1052 the original castle was destroyed either on the orders of Earl Godwin or by the Welsh in a raid.
