St Bees

St Bees is a village and civil parish in the Copeland district of Cumbria, in the North of England, on the Irish Sea coast about five miles west southwest of Whitehaven. The parish had a population of 1,717 according to the 2001 census. Within the parish is St. Bees Head, the most westerly point of Northern England upon which stands St Bees Lighthouse. St Bees has a Norman priory, an Elizabethan school and is a popular holiday destination.

Pow Beck

Pow Beck is a stream in Cumbria, rising near Mirehouse and flowing in a southwesterly direction to the village of St Bees where it flows into the Irish Sea. The present course was much altered by the Furness Railway in 1849 to improve the drainage of the valley. This included movement of a weir feeding Seamill, an undershot water mill.

Coast to Coast Walk

The Coast to Coast Walk is a 182-mile (293-km) unofficial and mostly unsignposted long distance footpath in Northern England. Devised by Alfred Wainwright, it passes through three contrasting national parks: the Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the North York Moors National Park. Wainwright recommends that walkers dip their booted feet in the Irish Sea at St Bees and, at the end of the walk, in the North Sea at Robin Hood's Bay.

St Bees Head

St Bees Head is a headland on the North West coast of the English county of Cumbria and is named after the nearby village of St Bees. It lies on the Cumbria Coastal Way and Wainwright Coast to Coast long-distance footpaths, it is the only stretch of Heritage Coast on the English coastline between the Welsh and Scottish borders, and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

River Keekle

The River Keekle is a river running through the English county of Cumbria. The source of the Keekle is to be found at Keekle Head Farm on High Park between Gilgarran and Asby. From there, the river moves gradually southwards via former open cast mine between Frizington and Whitehaven to Cleator, where it becomes subsumed by the River Ehen. The river is noted for its occasional abundance of salmon. Radioactive Landfill is proposed at Keekle Head.
