Gads Hill Place

Gads Hill Place in Higham, Kent, sometimes spelt Gadshill Place and Gad's Hill Place, was the country home of Charles Dickens, the most successful British author of the Victorian era. Today the building is the independent Gad's Hill School. The house was built in 1780 for a former Mayor of Rochester, Thomas Stephens, opposite the present Sir John Falstaff Public House. Gad's Hill is where Falstaff commits the robbery that begins Shakespeare's Henriad trilogy.

Gravesham

Gravesham is a local government district and borough in North West Kent, England. It has borders with Thurrock across the River Thames to the north; the former city of Rochester and Medway to the east; the borough of Tonbridge and Malling (to the south); and the boroughs of Sevenoaks and Dartford to the west. Its council is based at the Civic Centre in Gravesend, and the borough shares similar borders with the Gravesham constituency.

Hoo Junction

Hoo Junction is a rail yard on the North Kent Line. It is located near the village of Higham, Kent and also Shorne Marshes; it is operated by EWS. The yard is situated between Gravesend and Higham railway stations, at the junction with the freight-only single track line to the Hoo Peninsula.

Higham railway station, Kent

Higham railway station is in the hamlet of Lower Higham in North Kent. The village of Higham is about a mile to the south. Train services are operated by Southeastern. (Not to be confused with the closed station at Higham in Suffolk. ) The ticket office, on the 'up' side, is situated in the substantial station building.
