Nortoft

Nortoft was once a distinct hamlet between the Northamptonshire village of Guilsborough and the main road connecting Leicester and Northampton in the English Midlands. However due to Guilsborough's expansion the two communities are now merged. Nortoft, a hamlet now part of Guilsborough village is thought to have medieval origins and was based along the spring line.

Naseby Field

Naseby Field is the location of the Battle of Naseby, a cardinal battle of the English Civil War which resulted in a disastrous royalist defeat. It is located roughly twenty miles north of Northampton or roughly seven miles southwest of the town of Market Harborough, and is just north of the A14 main road. A commemorative plaque and obelisk marks the site of the battle.

Elkington, Northamptonshire

Elkington is a deserted medieval village and civil parish in the Daventry district of the county of Northamptonshire in England. The village was described as Elkynton and other variants in 1377 having 30 taxpayers over the age of 14. However, in 1412 the village is described as destitute of inhabitants save the seven who were servitors at Pipewell Abbey due to a pestilence believed to be the plague. Today there are no houses left in the village except a single remaining farm.

Battle of Naseby

The Battle of Naseby was the key battle of the first English Civil War. On 14 June 1645, the main army of King Charles I was destroyed by the Parliamentarian New Model Army commanded by Sir Thomas Fairfax and Oliver Cromwell.

Grand Union Canal (old)

The Grand Union Canal was a canal in England from Foxton, Leicestershire on the Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Union Canal to Norton Junction, close to Long Buckby Wharf on the Grand Junction Canal. It now forms the first 23 miles of the Leicester Section, a branch of the much bigger modern Grand Union Canal.
