Port William, Scotland
Port William is a small fishing village in the area of Mochrum, Wigtownshire, Dumfries and Galloway, in south-west Scotland. It is surrounded by the hamlets of Elrig, Mochrum and Monreith. The village at present has a population of approximately 460 and lies 23 miles east of the town of Stranraer, on the coast of Luce Bay.

Rispain Camp
Rispain Camp is the remains of a fortified farmstead 1 mile west of Whithorn, Wigtownshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It is one of the major Iron Age archaeological sites in Scotland. Today it consists of two broad earth banks separated by a ditch, originally almost six metres deep surrounding an enclosure of almost half a hectare. Its defences are so well preserved that until the mid 1970s archaeologists believed the site to be either a Roman fort or mediaeval farmstead.

Elrig
Elrig is a Clachan in Mochrum, Wigtownshire, in the Administration area of Dumfries and Galloway Council, Scotland. Located in the Machars peninsula, about 3 miles north of Port William. Elrig is the birthplace of author and naturalist Gavin Maxwell, who was born at the House of Elrig. His boyhood is recounted in The House of Elrig, published in 1965. The grounds of his family estate are open to the public, but the house is private with no public access.

Machars
The Machars (Scottish Gaelic Machair; lit. "the Plains ") is a peninsula in Wigtownshire, Galloway in the south-west of Scotland. The word "Machars" is derived from the Gaelic word Machair meaning low lying or level land, known as "links" on the east coast of Scotland. Although there are no high peaks in the Machars, it is not flat and would best be described as undulating or rolling.
