Carmyle Primary School

Carmyle Primary School is a primary school in Carmyle, Glasgow, Scotland. The old Victorian building (and associated portable classrooms) were replaced in the mid-1970s with the famous flying saucer shape/open-plan schools design, which was a rarity in Scotland at the time. Sadly this was burned down in a fire on Boxing Day 1994 and re-opened in May 1996 with a more traditional exterior shape.

A74 road

The A74 was a major trunk road in the United Kingdom, linking Glasgow in Scotland to Carlisle in the North West of England. It had been a vitally important link between Scotland and England for centuries, particularly since Thomas Telford's work in the 19th century, and consequently was continually upgraded and ultimately replaced by the A74(M) and M74 motorways. The final section, entirely in England, was replaced in 2008.

Newton (South Lanarkshire) rail accident

On 21 July 1991, two local commuter trains crashed just outside Newton station to the south eastern outskirts of Glasgow, Scotland. At 9.55pm, a Cathcart Circle service operated by a Class 303 train left the "down" platform of Newton station forming a Newton-Glasgow service. Meanwhile, a Class 314 unit forming a Balloch-Motherwell service on the Argyle Line was crossing from the fast West Coast Main Line tracks through a single lead junction to enter the "up" platform of Newton.
