Glyn Valley Tramway

The Glyn Valley Tramway was a narrow gauge railway that ran through the Ceiriog Valley in north-east Wales, connecting Chirk with Glyn Ceiriog in Denbighshire (now Wrexham County Borough). The gauge of the line was 28.5in. The total length of the line was 8+⁄4 miles, 6+⁄2 miles of which were worked by passenger trains, the remainder serving a large granite quarry and several minor slate quarries.

Ceiriog Valley

The Ceiriog Valley or Dyffryn Ceiriog is the valley of the River Ceiriog in north-east Wales. It is also the name of a ward of the County Borough of Wrexham Until 1974 the valley was part of the traditional county of Denbighshire; then it became part of the short-lived county of Clwyd, which was abolished in 1996. Geographically, parts of the Ceiriog Valley extend into Shropshire, England. The Ceiriog Valley runs west to east, south of the Vale of Llangollen.

Pontfadog

Pontfadog is a village in the Ceiriog Valley west of Chirk in the county borough of Wrexham, Wales; it is part of the community of Glyntraian. Like the neighbouring village of Glyn Ceiriog, the growth of Pontfadog is connected to the area's former quarrying industry. The village's name translates as "Bridge of Madoc", taking its name from a bridge over the River Ceiriog. Near to the village is an oak tree, the Pontfadog Oak, reputed to be the oldest in the United Kingdom.

Llangollen Canal

The Llangollen Canal is a navigable canal crossing the border between England and Wales. The waterway links Llangollen in Denbighshire, north Wales, with Hurleston in south Cheshire, via the town of Ellesmere, Shropshire. In 2009 an eleven-mile section of the canal from Gledrid Bridge near Rhoswiel through to the Horseshoe Falls, which includes Chirk Aqueduct and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
