John Gorrie Memorial Bridge

The John Gorrie Bridge carries US 98 and US 319 over the Apalachicola Bay. It connects Apalachicola, Florida with Eastpoint, Florida. The original John Gorrie Bridge was built in 1935, replacing a ferry service between the two towns. It included a rotating section to allow passage of ships with high masts. The current bridge was built in 1988.

Franklin County is a county along the Gulf of Mexico in the Florida panhandle of the U.S. state of Florida. It includes several large preserved areas and rivers and has been home to commercial timber and fishing industry. More recently it has become popular for tourism and retirement. It includes several rivers, state parks, and islands. As of 2000, the population was 11,057. The U.S. Census Bureau 2005 estimate for the county is 11,177. The county seat is Apalachicola, Florida.

Apalachicola River

The Apalachicola River /æpəlætʃɨˈkoʊlə/ is a river, approximately 112 mi (180 km) long in the State of Florida. This river's large watershed, known as the ACF River Basin for short, drains an area of approximately 19,500 square miles into the Gulf of Mexico. The distance to its farthest headstream in northeast Georgia is approximately 500 miles (800 km). Its name comes from the Apalachicola tribe, which used to live along the river.
