Palatka (pronounced puh-lat-kuh) is a city in Putnam County, Florida, United States. The population was 10,558 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Putnam County. Palatka is the principal city of the Palatka Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is home to 72,893 residents. The city is also home to St. Johns River State College, St. Johns River Water Management District Headquarters, and Ravine Gardens State Park.

Palatka Heights

Palatka Heights is a neighborhood southwest of downtown Palatka. The area is bordered by St. Johns Avenue to the north, Westover Drive to the west, and the Ravine Gardens State Park to the south. The neighborhood houses the Palatka Water Works, which provided citizens with water from 1886 until the end of the 1980s. The City of Palatka Heights was incorporated July 23, 1886 and existed until its annexation by Palatka in 1921.

Cross Florida Barge Canal

The Cross Florida Barge Canal was a canal project to connect the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean across Florida for barge traffic. Two sections were built but the project was cancelled, mainly for environmental reasons. It is now a protected green belt corridor, one mile (1.6 km) wide in most places. Named after the leader in the opposition against the canal, it is known as the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway.

Putnam County Business Park

Putnam County Business Park is a commercial development area located in Palatka, Florida. The 257 acre site borders Palatka Municipal Airport and is in close proximity to Putnam Community Medical Center and St. Johns River State College. The business center is owned by Putnam County and Putnam County Port Authority. Alorica is currently the only tenant occupying the park. The telecommunications and business solutions company operates a call center on the property. Other sites are shovel ready.
