Lake Superior State Forest

Lake Superior State Forest is a state forest in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is operated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The North Country Trail utilizes this state forest for 43 miles (69 km) of its route. The Lake Superior forest region was one of the last areas in Michigan to be logged for old-growth Red Pine and White Pine. Logging continued into the 1910s.

Luce County is a county in the Upper peninsula in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the population was 6,631. The county seat is Newberry. In 2002, Newberry was designated as the moose capital of Michigan by the state legislature. The county was set off and organized in 1887. It is named after former Michigan Governor Cyrus G. Luce (R).
