Carson is an unincorporated community in southwestern Taos County, New Mexico, United States. Named after famed frontiersman and Taos resident Kit Carson, Carson was founded around 1908, when the surrounding area was opened for homesteading. Carson is presently a low-density rural residential area. Carson has a post office, with the ZIP code 87517. The 87517 ZIP Code Tabulation Area had a population of 158 at the 2000 census. The Carson ZCTA had 114 housing units; a land area of 35.03 sq.

Pilar, New Mexico

Pilar (formerly Cieneguilla) is a small unincorporated town in Taos County, New Mexico, United States. It is located on the Rio Grande. The name comes from the Spanish word "ciénaga" which means "marsh" or "marshy place". The swampy ground is caused by several streams running across a small flood plain formed by a bend in the Rio Grande. Because the area featured a flat plain with a constant source of water, it was long frequented by the Jicarilla Apaches.

Rio Grande Gorge

The Rio Grande Gorge is a geological feature in northern New Mexico where the watercourse of the Rio Grande River follows a tectonic Chasm. Beginning near the Colorado border, the approximately 50 miles gorge runs from northwest to southeast of Taos, New Mexico, through the basalt flows of the Taos Plateau volcanic field. The gorge depth is 800 feet just south of the Gorge Bridge, which spans the gorge 10 miles northwest of Taos.

Taos Regional Airport

Taos Regional Airport is a public use airport located eight nautical miles (15 km) northwest of the central business district of Taos, in Taos County, New Mexico, United States. It is owned by the Town of Taos. According to the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2009–2013, it is classified as a general aviation airport. Although many U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, this airport is assigned SKX by the FAA and TSM by the IATA.

New Mexico State Road 68

State Road 68 is a 45.5 mi long state highway in northern New Mexico. NM 68 begins in the south in Española at the road's junction with U.S. Route 285 and U.S. Route 84 which run concurrently at that point. The road then runs northeast through Alcalde, Velarde, Embudo, and Ranchos de Taos, where it meets the north end of New Mexico State Road 518, before reaching its northern terminus at U.S. Route 64 in Taos.
