Boyds Corner Reservoir

The Boyds Corner Reservoir is a small reservoir in Putnam County, New York. It is in the town of Kent, New York, and is about 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of New York City. It is the northernmost reservoir in the Croton Watershed, and was formed by impounding the middle of the West Branch of the Croton River, submerging the village of Boyds Corner. Completed in 1872, the Boyds Corner Dam saw the use of concrete in dam construction for the first time since the Ancient Romans.

Putnam County, New York

Putnam County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York, in the lower Hudson River Valley. Putnam County formed in 1812, when it detached from Dutchess County. As of 2010, the population was 99,710. It is part of the New York Metropolitan Area. The county seat is the hamlet of Carmel. Putnam county was named in honor of Israel Putnam, a hero in the French and Indian War and a general in the American Revolutionary War.

Kent is a town in Putnam County, New York, United States. The population was 13,507 at the 2010 census. The name is that of an early settler family. The town is in the north-central part of the Putnam County. Many of the lakes are reservoirs for New York City.

Canopus Lake

Canopus Lake is a small lake within Clarence Fahnestock State Park in northern Putnam County, New York, USA. The lake is about 1.5 miles (2.0 km) long and 1/4 mile (0.4 km) wide at its widest point. Immediately to its east is Pelton Pond. The lake is on NY 301 just west of the Taconic State Parkway. The beach at the lake is called the "jewel of the park" and is used for swimming, boating, and fishing. In the winter, some cross-country skiers use the flat surface as a trail.

Lake Carmel (New York)

Lake Carmel is located in the Town of Kent, New York, United States. It takes its name from nearby Carmel, and in turn the community surrounding the lake, which accounts for much of Kent's population, is named for it. It was created by developers in the early 20th century by damming the Middle Branch of the Croton River.
