Cloverdale is a census-designated place (CDP) in Botetourt County, Virginia, United States. The population was 2,986 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Roanoke Metropolitan Statistical Area. Cloverdale is the birthplace of Charles Follis, who became the first African-American to play professional football when he signed with the Shelby Blues of Shelby, Ohio in 1902 (note that he was first paid for playing in 1904).

Hollins University

Hollins University is a four-year private institution of higher education located on a 475-acre campus on the border of Roanoke and Botetourt counties in the U.S. state of Virginia. Founded in 1842 as Valley Union Seminary in the historical settlement of Botetourt Springs, it is one of the oldest institutions of higher education for women in the United States. Hollins has since evolved into a full university with more than 1000 enrolled undergraduate and graduate students.

Lord Botetourt High School

Lord Botetourt High School (LBHS) is one of two high schools in Botetourt County, Virginia. It was built in 1958, in suburban Daleville, Virginia, opening the fall of 1959. It currently has 73 faculty members serving over 1,000 students grades 9-12. LB, as it is commonly known, is named after Lord Botetourt, the governor of Virginia from 1768 to 1770. LB's athletic teams are known as the "Cavaliers" and the school colors are Scarlet, Gray, and White.
