Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park

Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng (Vietnamese: Vườn quốc gia Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng) is a national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Bố Trạch and Minh Hóa districts of central Quảng Bình province in north-central Vietnam, about 500 km south of Hanoi. The park borders the Hin Namno Nature Reserve in Khammouan, Laos to the west and 42 km east of the South China Sea from its borderline point.

Bo Trach District

Bố Trạch is a rural district in Quảng Bình province. The district capital is Hoàn Lão township. Bố Trạch borders the capital city of Đồng Hới to the south-east and Tuyên Hóa district and Quảng Trạch district to the north, Quảng Ninh to the south and Minh Hóa to the north-west. Bố Trạch is home to Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park and has 30 communes and townships. As of 2006 the district had a population of 402,756. The district covers an area of 2,123 km².

2009 Gianh River boat accident

The 2009 Gianh River boat accident occurred on 25 January 2009 on the Gianh River near Quảng Hải Village, in the Quang Trach district of Quang Binh Province in Vietnam. A wooden boat sank 20 meters from the shore in strong currents during windy conditions. There were reportedly over 80 people on board, yet the boat was capable of carrying only 20. The accident caused 42 deaths and five people were missing. The Prime Minister of Vietnam sent his condolences to the victims’ families.
