Amherst Island

Amherst Island is located in Lake Ontario, 10 kilometres west of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Contrary to popular perception, Amherst Island is not one of the Thousand Islands. The island is part of Loyalist Township in Lennox and Addington County. Amherst Island is located about 3 kilometres (1.9 miles) offshore from the rest of Loyalist Township and is serviced by an automobile and truck ferry from Millhaven.

Millhaven Institution

Millhaven Institution is a maximum security prison located in Bath, Ontario. Approximately 400 inmates are incarcerated at Millhaven. Opened in 1971, Millhaven was originally built to replace the area's other maximum security prison. A riot at Kingston Penitentiary forced Millhaven to open prematurely. During the period of 1977–1984, a Special Handling Unit (SHU) operated at Millhaven along with its general maximum-security population.

Amherstview, Ontario

Amherstview is a community in Loyalist Township, Ontario. It is located on the north shore of Lake Ontario and has a population of approximately 10,000. It is adjacent to the city of Kingston, and considered part of the greater Kingston area. Amherstview is named for Amherst Island, located directly to the south in Lake Ontario. When the community was first established in the 1950s, the spelling was generally "Amherst View".

Amherstview Public School

Amherstview Public School or AVPS is a Canadian public, comprehensive school located in Amherstview, Ontario, Canada. The school serves about 300 students from Loyalist Township and Stone Mills, Ontario. The town is in the eastern Ontario county of Lennox and Addington approximately 10 kilometers west of the city of Kingston, Ontario. The school offers classes for students in grades JK through grade 8 and is a member school of the Limestone District School Board.
