Grand River, Mauritius

Grand River South East (GRSE) is a historic village in the southeast of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. It was named Groote River (Great River) by the Dutch. In the 17th century, GRSE was used for stocking and shipping ebony wood under the Dutch Occupation. The inhabitants of Grand River South East live mostly from fishing. The village has about 1500 households. It also has an active small planters community.

Île aux Cerfs

Île aux Cerfs (English for Deer Island) is an island near the east coast of the island of Mauritius in the Flacq District. The island is the property of a five star hotel (The Touessrok Hotel), nests a golf course and has beautiful beaches. Every day Mauritians and tourists visit the island, they depart in boats from the village of Trou d'Eau Douce and spend the whole day on the island. Catamaran cruises are also proposed from Pointe Jerome (Mahebourg).

New Educational College

New Educational College (NEC) has been founded in 1961 and is a private secondary school in Bel Air, Riviere Seche, Mauritius. Its objectives are to provide education to the children of Bel Air, Rivière Sèche and the surrounding villages who usually come from socio-economic background characterized by low income, a rural society and high illiteracy. More than eight thousand pupils have been educated at the NEC since its debut.

Battle of Grand Port

The Battle of Grand Port was a naval battle between squadrons of frigates from the French Navy and the British Royal Navy. The battle was fought during 20–27 August 1810 over possession of the harbour of Grand Port on Isle de France during the Napoleonic Wars. The British squadron of four frigates sought to blockade the port to prevent its use by the French through the capture of the fortified Île de la Passe at its entrance.
