Muntendam

Muntendam is a town in the Dutch province of Groningen, municipality Menterwolde. Until 1990 it was a separate municipality, which boasted the title 'reddest (most socialist) municipality in the Netherlands', with a council of 11 containing 7 PvdA (Labour Party) members and 2 CPN (Communist Party) members. (However, nearby Reiderland had had a vast CPN majority since WWII, so the claim is rather too strong).

Sappemeer

Sappemeer is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Hoogezand-Sappemeer. It is located to the east of Hoogezand. Sappemeer was a separate municipality until 1949, when it merged with Hoogezand. Famous Dutch feminist Aletta Jacobs was born in this village.

Groningen gas field

The Groningen gas field is a giant natural gas field located near Slochteren in Groningen province in the northeastern part of the Netherlands. Discovered in 1959, it is the largest natural gas field in Europe and the tenth largest in the world.
