Maungatua

Often incorrectly called The Maungatuas or The Maungatua Range, Maungatua is a prominent ridge which dominates the skyline of the Taieri Plains in Otago, New Zealand. Rising 900 metres above the floodplain of the Taieri River, directly to the west of Dunedin's airport at Momona, it can be clearly seen from much of Dunedin's urban area, 35 kilometres to the east, and from as far south as the outskirts of Balclutha, 65 kilometres to the southwest.

Outram, New Zealand

Outram is a rural suburb of Dunedin, New Zealand, with a population of 642 (2006 Census). It is located 28 kilometres west of the central city at the edge of the Taieri Plains, close to the foot of Maungatua. The Taieri River flows close to the southeast of the town. Outram lies on State Highway 87 between Mosgiel and Middlemarch. The original town was formed at a river crossing (ferry then bridge) on a route to the Central Otago goldfields.

Taieri Plains

The Taieri Plains are an area of fertile agricultural land to the southwest of Dunedin, in Otago, New Zealand. The plains cover an area of some 300 square kilometres, with a maximum extent of 30 kilometres. The floodplains of the Taieri and Waipori Rivers, the plains are enclosed to the west by the Maungatua and Silverpeaks Ranges, and to the south and east by a low range of coastal hills.

Lake Mahinerangi

Lake Mahinerangi is a small lake formed when a dam was built on the Waipori River for hydroelectric generation. The lake is 35 kilometres to the west of Dunedin in New Zealand's South Island. The Waipori hydro-electric scheme includes a network of four dams and power stations and produces a maximum output of 84 MW. The lake was named for Dorothy Kathleen Mahinerangi Burnett, the daughter of William Burnett, mayor of Dunedin 1911-1912.

Momona

Momona is a small town in New Zealand's South Island. It is located in the centre of the fertile floodplain of the Taieri River. Momona is within the limits of Dunedin City, although the city centre is 22 kilometres to the east. Momona is the location of Dunedin International Airport.
