Nemmersdorf massacre

Nemmersdorf in East Prussia was one of the first pre-war ethnic German villages to fall to the advancing Red Army in World War II. On October 21, 1944 it was the scene of a massacre perpetrated by the Soviet soldiers against German civilians and French and Belgian noncombattants. Determining the facts has aroused controversy.

Mayakovskoye

Mayakovskoye is a rural locality (a settlement) in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia, located to the southeast of the town of Gusev, on the banks of the Angrapa river. Until 1945, the settlement Nemmersdorf was a part of German East Prussia. It became known during World War II on October 22, 1944 as the site of the first Soviet war crime on German territory against Germans, the Nemmersdorf massacre.

Obszarniki (German: Abschermeningken, from 1938-45 Almental) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Banie Mazurskie, within Gołdap County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland, close to the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia. It lies approximately 13 kilometres north-east of Banie Mazurskie, 12 km west of Gołdap, and 123 km north-east of the regional capital Olsztyn. Before 1945 the area was part of Germany.
