Basing House

Basing House was a major Tudor palace and castle in the village of Old Basing in the English county of Hampshire. It once rivaled Hampton Court Palace in its size and opulence. Today only its foundations and earthworks remain. The ruins are a Grade II listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

Lychpit

Lychpit is now the name of a modern housing development adjacent to Old Basing near Basingstoke, Hampshire. The modern development started in the early 1980s but the area has an ancient past associated with that of Old Basing. The name derives from a wooded dell that still exists at the western end of Little Basing.

Thomas Carleton

Thomas Carleton (c. 1735 – 2 February 1817) was a British army officer who was promoted to Colonel during the American Revolutionary War after relieving the siege of Quebec in 1776. After the war, he was appointed as Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick, and supervised the resettlement of Loyalists from the United States in the province. He held this position until his death.

Fanum House

Fanum House is the headquarters of The Automobile Association in Basingstoke in the English county of Hampshire. It is one of several AA buildings named "Fanum House" around the country. The original Headquarters in Leicester Square was also called Fanum House, 'Fanum' being the callsign of the AA. The AA took advantage of 1960s government incentives to move from their London HQ to the rapidly expanding town of Basingstoke.
