Ide, Devon

Ide is a village in Devon, England situated less than a mile to the southwest of Exeter. The village church (rebuilt in 1834) is dedicated to the German Saint Ida of Herzfeld. The village is home to two pubs: the Poacher's Arms and Huntsman Inn. A long ford (some argue the second longest in Europe) crosses a lane on the edge of the village. Above Ide on a hilltop at SX8888 is the site of a Roman fortlet or signal station.

Alphington, Devon

Alphington is a former manor and village, now a suburb of the City of Exeter in Devon. The ward of Alphington has a population of 8250 according to the 2001 census, making it the third largest in Exeter, with the village itself accounting for about a quarter of this figure. It is surrounded on two sides by countryside, with the Marsh Barton trading estate to the east and Exeter City to the north. The Alphin Brook passes around the Northern edge of Alphington.

Exe Island

Exe Island was the early industrial area of Exeter, England, and was an area of marshland between the city walls and the River Exe, reclaimed by the construction of a series of leats, or water courses, possibly from as early as the 10th century. Of these, the Higher Leat still exists. It created Exe Island, which was a separate manor belonging to the Courtenays, Earls of Devon. The leats were used to drive fulling mills and corn mills.

Isca Dumnoniorum

Isca Dumnoniorum was a town in the Roman province of Britannia and the capital of Dumnonia in the sub-Roman period. Today it is known as Exeter, located in the English county of Devon. Excavations in the 1970s and 1980s established the presence of a Roman military fortress at Exeter (constructed around AD55) almost certainly for the Second Augustan Legion.

Exeter (UK Parliament constituency)

Exeter /ˈɛksətər/ is a constituency composed of the cathedral city and county town of Devon represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. The constituency has had a colourful history of representatives from 1900 of Conservative, Liberal Party, Independent and Labour representation and has been represented since 1997 by Ben Bradshaw of the Labour Party, who served in government as a Health Minister and as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport (2009-2010).
