Dove Holes railway station

Dove Holes railway station serves the village of Dove Holes, Derbyshire, England. The station is on the Manchester Piccadilly to Buxton line 22+⁄4 miles south east of Piccadlly. It is managed and served by Northern Rail who took over the station from First North Western. It was opened in 1863 by the LNWR at the summit of its line between Whaley Bridge and Buxton.

Speedwell Cavern

The Speedwell Cavern is one of the four show caves in Castleton, Derbyshire, England. It consists of a horizontal lead miners' adit (a level passageway driven horizontally into the hillside) leading to the cavern itself, a limestone cave. The adit is permanently flooded, resulting in Speedwell Cavern's (locally unique) feature: after descending a long staircase, the visitor makes the journey into the cave by boat (originally legged through by the guide, but now powered by an electric motor).

Dove Holes Tunnel

Dove Holes Tunnel is a tunnel built by the Midland Railway between Peak Forest Signal Box and Chapel-en-le-Frith in Derbyshire. In the mid-nineteenth century, the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway was jointly leased by the LNWR and Midland Railway, and ran as far as Rowsley. The Midland wished to extend to Manchester to give it a service to London but the LNWR, having its own London line, declined.

Blue John Cavern

The Blue John Cavern is one of the four show caves in Castleton, Derbyshire, England. The cavern takes its name from the semi-precious mineral Blue John, which is still mined in small amounts outside the tourist season and made locally into jewellery. The deposit itself is about 250 million years old. The miners who work the remaining seams are also the guides for underground public tours.
