Irwell Sculpture Trail

The Irwell Sculpture Trail is the largest public art scheme in England, commissioning regional, national and international artists. The Trail includes 28 art pieces and follows a well established 30-mile footpath stretching from Salford Quays through Bury into Rossendale and up to the Pennines above Bacup.

Clifton Country Park

Clifton Country Park is a Local Nature Reserve in the Irwell Valley at Clifton, Salford, Greater Manchester, North West England. The park comprises 48 hectares of wooded area, fields and lakes. Industrial heritage is also a feature of the park, the remains of the Wet Earth Colliery can be found in the woods, along with Fletcher's Canal. The park also features two sculptures from the Irwell Sculpture Trail.

Kearsley railway station

Kearsley railway station serves the Greater Manchester town of Kearsley and the villages of Stoneclough, Prestolee and Ringley, in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, in North West England. It was originally named Stoneclough Station. It lies on the Manchester-Preston Line, though only local services run by Northern Rail stop here. The station was staffed until the early 1990s, before the station building was arson attacked.

Outwood Colliery

Outwood Colliery was a coal mine in Outwood, near Stoneclough, then in the historic county of Lancashire, England. Originally named Clough Side Colliery, it opened in the 1840s and was the largest colliery in the area It was owned by Thomas Fletcher & Sons, Outwood Collieries, Stoneclough, Manchester. There were two pits. Coal was transported by a tramway to a depot west of Outwood Road, in Radcliffe, and also by tramway through Ringley Wood to the nearby Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal.

Wet Earth Colliery

The Wet Earth Colliery was a coal mine located on the Manchester Coalfield, in what is now Clifton Country Park, in Clifton, Greater Manchester. It has a unique place in British coal mining history; apart from being one of the earliest pits in the country, it is the place where the engineer James Brindley made water run uphill.
