Carsphairn

Carsphairn is a village in Kirkcudbrightshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It is located about half way between Dalmellington and St. John's Town of Dalry, next to the A713 road. Carsphairn annual sheep show is held in the village. Cairnsmore of Carsphairn is to the north east of the village in the Carsphairn and Scaur Hills. To the west is the ridge of the Rhinns of Kells in the Galloway Hills.

Cairnsmore of Carsphairn

Cairnsmore of Carsphairn is a 797m high hill in the Southern Uplands of southern Scotland. An alternative name, rarely used nowadays, is Cairnsmore of Deugh. The usual route of ascent is from the A713 road to the west at the "Green Well of Scotland" a kilometre or so north from the village of Carsphairn in the far north of Kirkcudbrightshire.

Loch Doon Castle

Loch Doon Castle, also known as Balloch Castle, was a castle that was located on an island within Loch Doon, Scotland. The castle was dismantled and rebuilt on the side of the loch after the loch water level was raised in the 1930s for a hydro electric scheme. A castle was built in the late 13th century on an island in Loch Doon, the castle consisting of an eleven-sided curtain wall. The castle was in the hands of the Earls of Carrick in the 13th century.

Loch Doon

Loch Doon is a body of water, in Carrick, Scotland. The River Doon issues from its northern end, while the loch itself receives waters from Loch Enoch via Eglin Lane. In the 13th century, it was a site of a castle owned by the Earls of Carrick. During the Scottish Wars of Independence it was held by one Gille Brighde, Sir Gilbert de Carrick, a native Carrick nobleman who surrendered it to the English. It was soon recovered by the Scots.
