Slate Islands
The Slate Islands are an island group in the Inner Hebrides, lying immediately off the west coast of Scotland, north of Jura and southwest of Oban. The main islands are Seil, Easdale, Luing, Lunga, Shuna, Torsa and Belnahua. Scarba and Kerrera which lie nearby, are not usually included. The underlying geology of the islands is Dalradian slate, which was quarried widely until the mid-twentieth century.

Cuan Sound
Cuan Sound is a narrow channel, 200 metres wide, in Argyll, western Scotland. It separates Seil Island and Luing and later becomes the Firth of Lorn. It has a very strong current. In Cuan Sound, the north-going stream begins 4.5 hours after high water and sets westward; the south-going stream begins 1.5 hours before high water and sets eastward; the streams attain a rate of 7 knots at springs. This coast from Cuan Sound to Easdale Bay is in many places foul and rocky for 1.5 cables of it.

Fladda
Fladda is one of the Slate Islands, off the west coast of Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Fladda is an islet in the Sound of Luing, between Luing and Belnahua. The name Fladda originates from the Old Norse for 'flat island'. Fladda has a lighthouse and lighthousekeepers' cottages built in 1860 by brothers David and Thomas Stevenson. It is home to a large colony of terns.

Torsa
Torsa (occasionally Torsay) is one of the Slate Islands in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Lying east of Luing and south of Seil, the island was inhabited until the 1960s. There is now only one house on the island, which is used for holiday lets. Its main industry is farming, with cattle brought over from the neighbouring island of Luing. The Luing cattle were bred for their hardiness. The island is connected to its smaller partner, Torsa Beag (Gaelic for little Torsa).

Belnahua
Belnahua is one of the Slate Islands, in the Firth of Lorn in Scotland, known for its slate quarries It lies 1.5 miles north west of Luing west of Argyll, and east of the Garvellachs. Although it once had a population of nearly 200 people, it has been uninhabited since World War I. Famed for its slate, the island has been considerably denuded by its quarrying. Deep water-filled cuttings and the ruined slate workers cottages remain as a testament of this industry.
