Lanark Grammar School

Lanark Grammar School is a secondary school in Lanark, Scotland. It was founded in 1183, and celebrated its octocentenary in 1983, including a visit by The Princess Anne. The school draws its pupils from the town of Lanark and many villages in the local area, including Douglas, Carstairs, Forth and Glespin. The school has 5 houses: Lockhart, Jerviswood, Wallace, Hyndford and Braxfield and pupils are sorted into these by tutor group upon the first day of term.

Ravenstruther is a small village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, near the town of Lanark. In 1517 the lands of Carstairs and Ravenstruther were granted to William Sommerville. Ravenstruther was then known as Ronstruther. The village is home to a caravan and camping park.

Action at Lanark

The Action at Lanark was an assassination attack at Lanark, Scotland during the First War of Scottish Independence in May 1297. It was led by Scottish leader William Wallace who led an uprising against the English and murdered Sheriff William Heselrig. At the time following the attack, it was not an isolated incident, but Wallace was joining in with risings taking place across Scotland. Not much is definitely known about this incident.

Bonnington Pavilion

The Bonnington Pavilion or Hall of Mirrors, now a ruin, is situated in the grounds of the old estate of Bonnington, near New Lanark, overlooking Corra Linn falls on the River Clyde in Lanarkshire, Scotland. Alternative names are the Corra Linn Pavilion and the Falls of Clyde summerhouse. The name comes from the Gaelic 'currach', a marshy place. A legend gives 'Cora' as a daughter of King Malcolm II, who leapt to her death here whilst trying to escape imagined danger.

Corehouse

Corehouse is a large country house and estate, located approximately 30 miles to the south east of Glasgow, Scotland. The estate is by the Corra Linn Falls on the River Clyde, and close to the World Heritage Site of New Lanark, in South Lanarkshire. The house was designed around 1820 by Sir Edward Blore for Lord Corehouse and is currently owned by the Cranstoun family. Parts of the house were open to the public during South Lanarksire Council's 2007 Doors Open Day.
