Haddo House

Haddo House is a Scottish stately home located near Tarves in Aberdeenshire, approximately 20 miles north of Aberdeen. It has been owned by the National Trust for Scotland since 1979. The Gordons, who later became the Earls of Aberdeen and Marquesses of Aberdeen, have lived on the site for over 500 years.

Tarves

Tarves is a small Aberdeenshire village, situated in the Formartine area of North East Scotland and lies between Oldmeldrum and Methlick. Much of the village was planned and laid out by the Marquess of Aberdeen in the 19th century but the history of the parish goes back considerably before that. The Community has a heritage group that provides a registered museum and heritage centre. The village is situated very close to Tolquhon Castle.

Tolquhon Castle

Tolquhon Castle is located in Aberdeenshire, about 20 miles northwest of Aberdeen. The current castle was built by William Forbes, 7th Laird of Tolquhon from 1584-1589 to replace an earlier towerhouse known as Preston's Tower, which is still partly intact, forming the left-hand tower when viewed from in front of the gatehouse (at the northern corner). The castle features unusual gun ports in the towers adjacent to the entrance, a design which was subsequently used in Dean Castle.
