Coulter, South Lanarkshire

Coulter or Culter (both spellings in use, pronounced "Cooter" with no "l") is a small village and civil parish in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It lies approximately 3 miles south of Biggar. Some old maps and local modern houses also have the spelling Cootyre - " a safe place for cows. " Nearby are two notable Scottish hills, Tinto and Culter Fell. The River Clyde is also nearby. Coulter Village at Culter House is on the watershed between the Clyde and the Tweed.

Lamington, South Lanarkshire

Culter Fell

Culter Fell is a hill in the Southern Uplands of Scotland. Previously the county top of the historic county of Lanarkshire, it is now the highest point in South Lanarkshire. It is the culmination of a network of ridges that lie south of the village of Coulter, close to the town of Biggar. It is probably most easily climbed from the north west. The best starting point is the mouth of Kings Beck, at NT 031305.
