Brownsbank

Brownsbank is close to the small settlement of Candymill to the north of Biggar in Scotland. It is best known as the former home of the poet Hugh MacDiarmid. His old house is maintained by Biggar Museum Trust, and is occupied by a writer in residence. Recent holders of the Brownsbank Creative Writing Fellowship have been James Robertson, Matthew Fitt, Gerry Cambridge, Aonghas MacNeacail, Tom Bryan, Richie McCaffrey and Linda Cracknell. The current (2012) resident is Andrew Sclater.

Kilbucho

Kilbucho is a small settlement in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland in Peeblesshire and near Biggar and Broughton. The name derives from the church which was dedicated to St Bega an Irish abbess. Several monasteries were dedicated to St Bega, many in Cumbria including St Bees but also in Scotland at Kilbagie in Clackmannanshire and Kilbegie in Argyllshire.

Broughton, Scottish Borders

Broughton is a village in Tweeddale in the Scottish Borders. Towns and villages nearby include Biggar, Drumelzier, Kilbucho, and Peebles. The village has a post office, village store, tea room/bistro, bowling green, tennis courts, a village hall, a petrol station and a garage. There is also a small cask ale brewery, Broughton Ales Brewery, which produces many popular beers, including "Merlin", "Black Douglas", "Scottish Oatmeal Stout", "Old Jock" and "Greenmantle".

Broughton Gallery

The Broughton Gallery is an art gallery in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland, in the village of Broughton. The gallery was established in 1976 and offers works by contemporary British artists and craft makers. It is housed in Broughton Place, a historic house designed by Sir Basil Spence in 1936 in the style of a 17th-century Scots Baronial tower house.
